« Singapore’s government has been heavily investing in research in the last 5 years and will continue to do so in the next decade. This talk begins by portraying a snapshot of Singapore’s research landscape and collaboration opportunities with the Nanyang Technological University. In the second part of the talk, I will describe my academic journey as well as an overview of my past research activities including perceptual quality of multimedia and sampling theory for sparse signals. Finally I will conclude by presenting different applications, in particular, in biomedical signal and image processing for which potential joint collaborations may innate. »

Pina Marziliano obtained a B.Sc. Mathematics in 1994 and the M.Sc. Computer Science (Operations Research) in 1997 from the Université de Montréal. In 2001 she completed her Ph.D degree in Communication Systems from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. She then joined a start-up company, Genimedia SA in Lausanne, and developed perceptual quality metrics for multimedia applications. In 2003, she became an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. In July 2006, she was seconded for one year to the International Relations Office of the NTU. In 2007, she received the Best Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society for the paper “Sampling Signals with Finite Rate of Innovation”. She teaches Digital Signal Processing, supervises graduate students and her research interests include: sampling theory and applications in communications and biomedical engineering, watermarking and perceptual quality metrics for multimedia.
